At times students contact me about how to do certain effects or procedures in After Effects. Since I can’t always be available, I wanted to remind you that:<\/p>\n

* You have an interactive “Help” menu at the top of your After Effects tool\u00a0bar or you can hit “F1”\u00a0<\/p>\n

* Within the Help Menu, there is an “effects reference” help section that will cover most, if not all, the effects menu.<\/p>\n

\"cmg4\"* Also check the wonderful text book Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects<\/span> by Trish and Chris Meyer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

* It is a valuable reference and belongs in every animator’s, editor’s and VFX artist’s library.<\/p>\n

* Look up the topic in the back, in the index, and it will take you to the pages that cover the\u00a0subject of interest.<\/p>\n

* You can also Google topics like “puppet tool in After Effects”\u00a0 or “How to use the puppet tool in After Effects”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

* Get familiar with Creative Cow After Effects tutorial library:\u00a0 http:\/\/library.creativecow.net\/tutorials\/adobeaftereffects<\/a><\/p>\n

* Get familiar with Andrew Kramer’s Video Co-Pilot site and his After Effects tutorials:\u00a0 http:\/\/www.videocopilot.net\/tutorials\/<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0* Also look at and subscribe to AETUTS+\u00a0 at:\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0http:\/\/ae.tutsplus.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Eugene Pak, fellow AIPX\u00a0 After Effects instructor, added:<\/p>\n

* “Develop a mentorship with someone more experienced than yourself. It’s a great way to pick up hints and tricks, as well as a critical voice.<\/p>\n

* Look at online support groups such as Creative Cow and AE Mailing List.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are a lot of resources out there in print and on the internet.\u00a0 Almost anything you want to know about After Effects is covered to one degree or another.\u00a0 So, don’t get paralyzed in your creative process. Be assertive and search out what you want or need to know.<\/p>\n

\u00a0No one can know everything but remember:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
